A Sisyphean Endeavour: Website Launch
The build and relaunch of my newly designed website on a new platform has been a Sisyphean endeavour. In the past, I always built my own sites from scratch, but this time the very thought of doing it alone made me feel physically ill—until I met the lovely, patient, and brilliantly creative graphic and game-board designer Christopher Westmaas (yes, real, tangible game boards—he’s the mind behind thoughtful designs like Lairs). He kindly agreed to lend a hand, and together we turned what could have been overwhelming into something collaborative and meaningful.
Since neither of us treated this as a full-time job—both having far more inspiring creative projects to pursue—the process stretched on for many, many months. We wrestled with platform limitations, countless glitches, endless coding tweaks, and wave after wave of ideas that we ultimately discarded. In the end, we arrived at something that, while not exactly what we first envisioned, is aesthetically pleasing, engaging, informative, and—most importantly—easy to navigate.
In Christopher’s poetic words, this is how the build unfolded:
“There is a stretch of time where nothing asserts itself…Images wander in, examine the space, and decide not to stay, leaving behind only a faint impression that something might have been considered. It is neither empty nor full, just suspended… It drifts along…a moment unburdened by meaning or direction… and what remains is simply a quiet pause, existing without asking to be understood.”
Though only a small selection of the hundreds—perhaps thousands—of paintings, drawings, prints, and sketches I’ve created over the years appears on the site, everything is visible at once as thumbnails on the WORK page. Simply click any thumbnail to zoom in, then scroll through each gallery using the side arrows. Simple.
My new website now exists. Welcome.
I hope you’ll explore, linger, and perhaps find something that resonates. Thank you for being here.
